What Is It?

Family Conquest is a free, fun and effective way to build fulfilling relationships with your kids while passing on the Catholic Faith. The approach is simple: parents use viral YouTube videos as icebreakers to capture the attention and imagination of the whole family, and then turn that captivation into lively discussion about life and the Faith. It’s really cool.

We make implementing this approach easy by providing Family Conquests. Each of these online Conquests includes 1-3 hand-selected videos along with questions, answers and activities designed to engage the whole family. The Conquests offer the Catholic perspective on a variety of topics, from Angels, Demons, and the Church Militant to Fatherhood, Humanity, Beauty and the role of Emotions.

Why Would I Need It?

If you’re looking for an easy way to have fun with your family, build fulfilling relationships with them, and pass on the Catholic Faith all at the same time, then Family Conquest is for you.

Parents who use this approach experience revitalization in their families. Their kids are more affectionate, and their homes change for the better. Why? Because dad is embracing his God-given role as head of the family, and mom thrives as the heart of the home. When they do this, their family blossoms.

Sound too good to be true? It’s not. Just check out the testimonials.

Who Is It For?

Family Conquest is designed to be used by Catholic parents of children old enough to watch a YouTube video. The Conquests are aimed at kids 5 and older. Because videos are used as parables, everyone in the family can participate at the same time and draw out truths at their own level.

How Do I Use the Approach?

Family Conquest uses the coolest videos on the internet as icebreakers to captivate your kids’ imaginations, and clever questions about those videos to transform that captivation into lively interaction, discussion, and a search for Truth. What does that look like?

Imagine dad & mom after dinner every Monday rallying their kids. “Come on guys, we’ve got some cool videos to show you!” Mom grabs some treats to reward participation.

The kids run into the family room, dad connects to the internet on their TV and plays the first 2-minute video; a prank where a man dresses up like a statue of the Devil and startles people who walk by.

The kids laugh. Dad & mom laugh.

Dad reads the question below the video: what does this tell us about the Devil?

Their 17-year-old son thinks for a moment, then shares “it may seem like the Devil is NOT real, but he actually is.”

“Excellent! Great answer!”

And their son… smiles. Mom gives him a treat.

Their 6-year-old daughter’s hand shoots into the air. “Stay away from the Devil or he’ll scare you!”

Dad laughs and says “great job!” She beams and gets treat.

Then dad plays a second video about a man catching venomous snakes by the tail.

Their 10-year-old daughter covers her face in disgust, then peeks between her fingers. He reads the question: “What part of the snake does the man avoid?”

Their 13-year-old daughter says “the head!”

“Why?” Dad asks, furrowing his eyebrows, looking her in the eyes and encouraging her to think deeper.

“Because the head is the part that bites and can kill you!”
“That’s right!” He smiles, proud of her for coming to the answer on her own. And she…shines. Mom hands her a treat.

“How is the way this man deals with the snakes similar to how exorcists deal with the Devil?”

Their 15-year-old daughter answers this time. “They don’t trust anything that comes from the Devil’s mouth.”

“Very good, Olivia! That’s exactly right.” And she…smiles. More treats.

Dad reads the scripture verse: “The Devil is a liar and a murder from the beginning.” Then mom elaborates: “Just like the guy in the video has to be careful of what comes out of the snake’s mouth (venom which can poison you), exorcists have to be careful of what comes out of the Devil’s mouth: lies and deceit which can poison the heart of the exorcist.”

After one more video and discussion, they end with a prayer. The 10-year-old daughter wraps her arm around her parents and says, “thanks, that was cool.”

So, what just happened?

Dad & mom spent quality time with their kids. They affirmed their kids, and the kids affirmed their parents. They all had fun together. And the parents just made the Faith relevant!

That’s the Family Conquest approach. In summary:

1. Start with Viral YouTube Videos

Pick from among the numerous Family Conquests. Get some treats ready.

2. Turn Those Videos into Discussion About the Faith

Every video in a Family Conquest comes with carefully crafted questions to help you get the discussion started.

3. Enjoy Your Time Together!

This is an opportunity to bond with your kids and let their personalities shine. Let them know that not only are they free to engage, but you are interested in what they have to say. Because you know what? Sometimes your kids will offer insights you’d never thought of before. And when they don’t, their answers are usually pretty cute.

Don’t be afraid if you get off topic. This isn’t a curriculum, it’s kindling for a lively interaction.

Watching cool videos and discussing them with your kids while handing out sweet treats isn’t just a fun and easy way to pass on the Faith; it’s also allowing you to spend precious time with your family. This type of faith and fun-centric bonding is foundational for a strong Catholic family.

The best part? You’re in charge. Not only will your kids be excited to see the videos, they’ll be excited that you are the ones showing them.

Why Is It Effective?

1. It’s Fun

This one is obvious: watching cool videos together is fun. Family Conquest isn’t something your kids are going to dread, it’s something they’ll look forward to. That’s the first step in building fulfilling relationships and passing on the Faith: positive and memorable experiences.

2. Dad is #1 and Mom is #1… Seriously!

Statistically, no one has more influence in a child’s faith life than… dad. He is #1. Statistically, no one influences dad to step up to lead the family in faith more than… mom. She is #1. Together, dad & mom wield the influence and spiritual authority to communicate God’s love and truth more profoundly than any other! So, Family Conquest doesn’t replace parents as the head and heart of the family, it equips them. When you use this approach, you aren’t just passive observers to a program made for the whole family: you are leading while utilizing an approach designed specifically for you to connect with your family. When you take up your roles as head and heart, your kids respond.

3. Speaking Your Kids’ Language

YouTube is the most used app of Gen Z (kids born after 1995). Your kids are accustomed to watching videos online and then sharing them with their friends. Family Conquest uses these exact same videos, but this time, YOU are the one sharing them. In a sense, you are speaking to your kids in their own language.

4. Belong, then Believe

Children have a deep desire to be sought out, known, and loved by their parents. For them to care what you have to say about the Catholic Faith, they first need to know that you care about them. They need to feel like they belong. Once they belong, they will grow to believe the same things you believe. Family Conquest marries both of these ideas. By seeking out your kids, speaking their language, and affirming them, you establish the kind of relationship necessary to plant the seeds of belief: belief in your love and God’s love.

5. Viral Videos as Parables

Jesus spoke in parables, simple stories that imprint deeply in our minds and offer ever new insights. Family Conquest uses viral YouTube videos as parables. Just as the prodigal son can teach us about God’s unending love, so can a dad carrying his son to the finish line of an Olympic race. These types of memorable stories – stories that everyone gets at their own level – are the best way to pass on the eternal Truths of the Catholic Faith.

The Results

For Kids

  1. Kids feel loved. When you consistently take the time to dialogue with your kids, affirm them, and engage them about the big questions of life and eternity, they feel cared for and accompanied. Your affirmation and interest make kids feel stability and love.
  2. Building Bridges. This approach opens the door to the type of family intimacy needed to talk about the most important things in life. When your kids feel heard and pursued by you, they are willing to share their hearts, their fears, and their dreams. Your kids will open up and blossom.
  3. Learning Priorities. “There is need of only one thing.” – Luke 10:42 God tells us that loving Him wholeheartedly is THE priority. When you take up Family Conquest, your kids not only learn what is most important, they also begin to experience for themselves God’s wonder and love. They discover the joy of the only life priority worth living for – and dying for.

For Mom

  1. You feel loved. Very much so! When dad takes up the spiritual headship of the family, his wife feels freed to step into her desired role as heart of the family. You feel loved because dad “gets it” and has prioritized your kids and family in the most important area: eternal life.
  2. You feel more satisfied. You knew your husband had it in him. Just as your physical beauty initially attracted him, the beauty of your heart and your encouragement inspire him to heights of self-denial and self-gift that he didn’t believe possible. The fruitfulness of your motherhood extends well beyond your children and bears some of its choicest fruits in helping your husband mature into his spiritual fatherhood.

For Dad

  1. Your wife will be warmer. Seriously. We hear this constantly. Wives feel loved and in turn are more affectionate and appreciative of dad. They look at dad with more delight and are more attracted to him. Pretty great, right?
  2. Your kids will be warmer. Dad receives extra smiles and hugs. Kids show more appreciation and are more cooperative and open. The relationship gets easier and more fulfilling.
  3. You will feel more satisfied. You will feel a surge in confidence from the warm response of your family. You will see your progress toward your greatest priority: getting your kids and wife to heaven. The goodness of God will swell your soul, since you are acting in accord with your own Father who desires all of His children to be with Him forever in Heaven.

How Do I

Get Started?

1. Commit to Consistency

As with all the most important things in life, building fulfilling relationships and passing on the Faith to your children only happens if you’re consistent. Just like you wouldn’t expect to put on 20 pounds of muscle without consistently hitting the gym and eating right, you can’t expect your family’s relationships and faith to grow if you’re not consistently working towards that goal. You have to commit to consistency.

Commit now. Time is of the essence. Each passing week further solidifies the eternal trajectory of your children. As Frederick Douglass said, “it is easier to build strong children than repair broken men.” Raising your children to be right with God is easy, ONLY if you do what God is calling you to do…this week!

2. Do One Conquest With Your Family Every Week

Yes, every week. Consistency is key. Put it on your calendar. Set an alarm.

Doing a Family Conquest couldn’t be simpler:

  • Pull up a Conquest on your phone or computer.
  • Show your kids the first video.
  • Use the included questions and answers to start a discussion.
  • You can do a Conquest in as little as 15 minutes.

That’s it! Family Conquest can be used around the dinner table, in front of an internet connected TV, sitting fireside, or anywhere where you and your family are gathered. Engaging your family and growing in the Faith together is that simple.

3. Pay it Forward

Family Conquest lights on fire the hearts of families for the love of God and each other! We’re really excited about how God will use this program to reach English-speaking families around the world!

To keep this ministry free for all families, we rely on your prayers and generosity. All of us have suffered from the massive loss of faith in society and the heartache of broken family relationships. So much could have been avoided, if families took the right steps early on. Greg

It has now been about 6 months that we have been doing [Family Conquest]. The program is easy to follow as you have done all the work. We hook a laptop up to the TV and use it like a monitor. We sit in the same seats we use to watch tv, so a comfortable setting. I have 4 kids - 15, 13 and 4 year old boys and 7 year old girl. They all get things, at their own level, from the program. Typically, I'll ask the questions following the video to a specific child depending on the depth of the question and video. The breadth of the subjects is great. Some are spiritual, while others help explain why Catholics do things a certain way. I'm a new Catholic so this helps me a lot. All of us learn something each week! We do this on Tuesday evenings and have only missed one week after getting started. I have had kids remind me about it and on several occasions ask when the next one was. One thing you did not mention is the brownie points from the wife. My wife has mentioned several times how much she likes the program and thanks me for it. I almost feel guilty about accepting her comments as really all the work has been done. All I have to do is click on videos and ask questions - that have answers! Plus I learn and enjoy the program. Just wanted to offer some comments, can't think of anything I would change.

Tim

I expected this program to help me be a better dad. What I didn't expect was how it would affect my wife and kids. Frankly, my wife has been more warm toward me, grateful that I am dedicating this time with our children. My one son is not as verbally expressive. After each session, he gives me a hug! Amazing. Also, those analogies of natural things to represent spiritual realities are so impactful. For instance, the Guardian Angel Conquest with the video about Mount Everest Sherpas being a representation of our guardian angels protecting us and leading us up the mountain was just so tangible, so clear. Thank you!

Matt

I've been working through these Conquests with the family and they're fantastic. Thank you for putting them together!

Michael

Beautiful reflections on venial and mortal sin. Powerful seeing the incorruptible saints. Thanks

Marco

My daughter loves it.

Sonya

Excellent! My teen and I really were able to follow the Family Conquest easily, as with the other Conquests. The integration of different types of videos (informational and dramatic, etc.) that focused us in on the topic, really captured the attention of my teen. She was able to learn a lot because of that. Also, the videos are about real life stories at times and often times these stories are very moving, which will help us to remember the lesson later on. Thank you.

Tim

I have been enriched. This has been an excellent tool to foster deeper, loving, faith-filled relationships in my family. Dads make the difference.

Bill

This particular series of videos (Family Conquest - The Mass) my wife and I both agreed, were the best set that we've used so far. The points were clear, straightforward, and well reinforced in the videos and our kids, ages 6, 8 and 12 were particularly engaged. The kids were also able to answer the questions consistently and with greater detail than usual. We have been using these for 4 months. Thank You!!

Shannan

We love the Conquests!

Mark

I finally had my first Family Conquest night with my kids. It went well. I mirrored from iPhone to TV. Thanks so much developing Family Conquest. My wife and six kids loved it and I think it will force me to set the example more.

Jerome

We really enjoyed it. We thought the progression of the videos showing the loyalty of the animals and then the loyalty in human relationships was very inspirational!

Chad

All of the videos are very well liked. We all love the videos and messages...thanks and blessings.

Daniel

My kids loved the videos and my eight year old didn't want it to end!

Matthew

Thanks for putting this together! This really helped me and my children reflect on God's love for each of us and my role as their father.

Michael

Thank you, thank you, thank you again for your work on this! It has been very helpful for a guy like me who wants to do a better job connecting his children's hearts with the faith but feels he's only equipped to connect their heads to it. Our children need both. I am not good with the heart-part, but with your videos and your suggested questions and answers, I am able to put together good answers-from-the-heart that I don't think I could have done without a little help.
